About 89th Minute

I love everything about vegetarian food! Cooking it, eating it, and reading and writing about it. I recently gave up my office job to pursue a food career. If I have any free time, you will find me in the kitchen cooking up a storm, reading recipe books, in the lounge room watching cooking shows or out and about looking for great vegetarian eats in Bristol.

Early this year I decided to commit to a full-time vegetarian life. 89th Minute is an expression of the things that I love – an outlet for my culinary creativity and my vegetarian food adventures.

Why Vegetarianism?

I grew up in rural England and eating meat and farming was a normal part of my daily life. In my early teens I moved to the city where I gained a whole new perspective on food. I started experimenting with cooking in my late teens/early twenties and after reading about the health benefits of reducing meat in your diet, followed a pescatarian diet for a number of years. After my first baby, I returned to my old eating habits however, I continued to experiment with vegetarianism for a number of years before finally committing to a permanent lifestyle change in 2012.

There are many benefits that come with a vegetarian diet – environmental sustainability, improved health and wellbeing and of course the opposing of factory farming and animal cruelty.

I have only been a vegetarian for a short time and as such I do not preach it. I respect the choices of others and wish for the same in return. I don’t see the need for meat in my diet. There are so many healthy alternatives available. I hope that my blog inspires others to experiment with vegetarian cuisine. Vegetarianism can open up a whole new world of culinary pleasures.
